PKI Policies and Procedures: Deployment Specification
The deployment specification describes the technical procedures and the PKI technical architecture in place. It is a manual for system administrators and CA administrators and should be continually updated with any changes to the PKI system or the business. The deployment specification is internal.
Our deployment specification template is easy to follow with screen shots of implementation sequences for the PKI and explanatory text. Administrators can revise the deployment specification after the PKI is deployed if business requirements or system elements change.
Topics covered in the deployment specification include the following:
- System requirements
- Order of installation and configuration
- Installing card readers
- Installing the operating system
- Database conversion
- Mail profile configuration
- Generating a Certificate Revocation List
- Using the LDAP Directory
- Creating the audit card
- Resetting user PINs
- Performing an integrity check on the CA database
The deployment specification also includes a high-level deployment guide for planners and managers. The deployment guide outlines in short form the steps for deploying the SPYRUS PKI system, from requrements analysis to PKI system start-up and certificate issuing. The deployment guide describes each of ten steps in terms of prerequisites for each step, resource and time requirements, the tasks to be performed, and relationships between steps.
