SPYRUS Announces Integration of Windows to Go and P-3X Product Lines with Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and 4

By September 7, 2016 Press Release

Compact Devices Support Secure Storage, Multi-Factor Authentication and Encryption for Applications in Financial, Medical, Electronic Healthcare Records, Electronic Flight Bag and Similar Industries

San Jose, CA – September 7, 2016 – SPYRUS, Inc. today announced the integration of its secure USB 3.0 drive family with the Microsoft [NASDAQ: MSFT]  Surface Pro 3 and 4 series of ultra-compact mobile tablets.  The family includes Microsoft certified WorkSafe™ Pro, WorkSafe, Secure Portable Workplace™, and Portable Workplace live drives, and P-3X secure data storage drives.    The secure USB 3.0 drive family has been certified to NIST 140-2 Level 3 and merges accredited information security with MIL-810 tested packaging providing an unprecedented selection of capabilities and features in sizes from 32 GB through 512 GB with 1 TB soon to be released.  A brief video showing the ease of use with Surface Pro 4 is highlighted on the SPYRUS website at and .

“SPYRUS is currently the only manufacturer of hardware encrypted Windows To Go products that have successfully integrated support with the Microsoft Surface Pro family of tablets.  The unique feature set, to include provisioning support to boot the Windows To Go in UEFI Secure Boot mode, in conjunction with FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification sets a new standard for security features and performance,” said Tom Dickens, SPYRUS COO. “Use cases for these smart drives also dovetail perfectly with the rapidly emerging requirements for collaboration, secure data storage, secure mobile computing, and secure devices with auditable cybersecurity.”

Portability and rugged construction of the SPYRUS devices makes them ideal for applications such as financial, medical, electronic healthcare records, electronic flight bag, related use cases or harsh environments.  Adding the military grade security of the SPYRUS drives provides unparalleled security for sensitive data and regulatory requirements.

In particular, integrating the SPYRUS Windows To Go WorkSafe Pro live drives provide a highly secure execution environment for the Surface Pro family.  After the user enters the ToughBoot™™ password, it is cryptographically authenticated within the patented SPYRUS Rosetta Micro security chip. If the authentication is successful, the encrypted compartment of the WorkSafe Pro is decrypted and the Windows bootloader on the drive will be verified and instantiated.  Depending on enterprise boot policy, which can be administered remotely in enterprise deployments by the SPYRUS Enterprise Management System, the user has a limited number of logon attempts before the drive is blocked. This ensures that a hacker won’t be able to brute force logon to your WorkSafe Pro device and provides an added layer of protection.

The WorkSafe Pro, WorkSafe, and P-3X devices, with their internal SPYCOS PKI HSM, support the unique multiparty collaboration features of the new SPYRUS NcryptNshare™ applications for end-to-end encryption and sharing between senders and recipients to protect data in transit and at rest.  NcryptNshare in conjunction with these models can also support cloud based collaboration services, in a private, public or hybrid cloud or in hosted on premise deployments.  Optionally, employing NcryptNshare SDK, enterprise users can seamlessly integrate these PKI enabled drives with the recently released Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Always Encrypted™ secure database for the ultimate in enterprise controlled information sharing and security.

All drives in this family maintain compatibility with the optional SPYRUS Enterprise Management System (SEMS). Combining a Microsoft public key with a smart card-enabled ecosystem and SPYRUS security applications, SEMS extends a true end-to-end security approach for enterprise smart card and PKI infrastructure to mobile users. With SEMS device management, enterprise administrators can centrally register, block/unblock, revoke, set policies, audit, and “kill” the Courier Mode USB 3.0 drives.  The latest versions of SEM 4.5 feature active directory integration and support for globally distributed domains and privileges.  SPYRUS SEMSaaS (SEMS as a Service) allows enterprises to employ a “cloud based SEMS” without standing up their own servers.
